About this audiobook

MEET THE GOVERNOR: He kneels for only ONE man.

I kneel for only one man—Carter Wilson, my best friend, chief of staff, and bastard extraordinaire.

It's a price I willingly pay to be owned by Her.

His wife.

Who is also, as of when we were sworn in this morning, my lieutenant governor.

I am Owen Taylor, governor of the great state of Florida.

Book 1 of the Governor Trilogy, and the book that kicks off the entire "world" that this and other trilogies are set in. This MMF contemporary political romance features friends to lovers, GFY, a secret workplace romance with high political stakes, power exchange, wounded heroes, a cinnamon roll hero, an Alpha hero who will kill to protect his loved ones, and a guaranteed HEA.

Editor's Note

Polyamorous BDSM...

Compellingly written (and shockingly explicit), “Governor” is the first book in Richardson’s BDSM polyamorous trilogy. Richardson herself practices BDSM, and her knowledge shines through every page.

I liked it until what can only be perceived & deemed as the betrayal IMO!

The story (author) makes a point of how truth, honesty, consent, trust, acceptance, friendship & love is required for the type of relationship that they're building, only for the author to pull the rug from under ours & Owen's feet.

Suddenly, he's just a plaything to amuse the abusive, duplicitous duo, Carter & Susa (who is also an extremely superfluous character IMO... but an effective beard, I guess ?).

Honestly, IMHO this would've worked better as an MM story rather than MMF, Susa doesn't really bring anything to the story, except hamper it.

A throuple or MMF pairing should be about an equal partnership, even if there are D/s elements... this story, after the Vegas situation simply becomes a story about 2 people taking advantage of an extremely broken boy!

I quit at the point that they broke Owen's trust & took advantage of his abandonment issues, Carter especially...

The trust is completely broken by both Carter AND Susa & it's merely played off as an impetus to get into the MMF dynamics & it completely screws over what the story had been building up until that point...

    A real shame!

Oh my…..what did I just read….I swear…this book is beyond sexy. Beyond gritty. Beyond heartbreaking and inspiring. It’s so loving and selfish brushed and beaten against gracious and giving. Battlefields of awkward moments at war with need and temptation. Definitely a must have and must read

I liked reading this so much. The dynamic in their relationship wasn't always as balanced as I would've preferred it to be. Perhaps it's because I'm not a sub, but I wasn't always thrilled with Carters decision for Owen. However the way the story unfolds, you do end up begrudgingly accepting that, for their world, maybe it wasn't a bad one. I enjoy that this isn't one fk-fest after another. That there is a story line, the characters are somewhat complex, there is progression too. It is exactly the kind of escapism I enjoy glad I picked it up. Highly recommend.

So much to unpack about how I feel about this book. Well written and perfectly narrated. The mind fuck in chapter 34 threw me for a loop… but by the end, I had happy tears in my eyes. Knowing what I know now from the ending, I really want to reread it with this new perspective.

Such a beautiful insight into the emotional dynamic of D/s lifestyle. Don’t get me wrong, there’s plenty of sex but I would honestly say the emotions completely overrode that in a surprisingly perfect way. It also showed poly in a way I had not previously seen exemplified.

Identifying with Owen myself, the mind fuck from chapter 34 gutted me. It almost made it hard to continue reading. Almost. If you feel the same, don’t give up. Finish it. It will all make sense in the end.

Some will look at this and only see emotional manipulation, but there is so much more depth and complexity to it.

Wow. I mean, WOW. I loved this book. I learned a lot. As a former (state) senate staffer, I approve of all the insider shizz Richardson writes. What a fun, engaging, poignant tale. And HOT as all get out. I loved the MM aspect of this MMF. Very satisfying ending.

This was a hard listen for me, as I can't imagine anyone ruling my life completely nor ever being anyone's slave. My favorite character is Susa. She is intelligent, mature past her young years, and like me she is a Switch. But mine is just play and is sexual only. No one will run my entire life. Carter really is a manipulate bastard and Owen is just too friggin f'd up and weak.
What Carter does in order to get Owen sexual goes above and beyond being a bastard extrordinare.

DNF this ends in a cliffhanger, for an eleven plus hour audiobook to need 3 books that’s strike 1, each book is told from a different MC’s POV, the most likable character is lied to and left out of a major decision that was unforgivable, disrespectful betrayal- strike 2, then I went through reviews hoping book 2 or 3 would bring some redemption, but sadly strike 3. Clearly a lot of people love this series but being emotionally manipulated isn’t my thing.
